1.) BROWN SUGAR
Did you know that you can prevent brown sugar from hardening by putting an orange peel along with the sugar in an airtight container? The peel stores moisture that will emanate throughout the container and freshen up the sugar. Say goodbye to stoned table sugar!
The fastest way to defrost meat is by putting it on an aluminum sheet tray or skillet. Faster than a cold running tap. Plus, you can save water! Metals like aluminum and stainless steel will thaw food faster than other surfaces.
3.) HERBS and SPICES
You can extend the lifespan of your washed herbs and greens by rolling them up in damp paper towels. You can even extend it up to several days. Then put them in zipper-lock bags with the seals left slightly open. The paper towels will give you a built-in freshness indicator or a hint. Like, you will know the hint of decay, you'll see darker spots of liquid forming on the paper towels.
4.) MEASURING CUPS/SPOONS
Measuring sticky ingredients can be time-consuming and annoying especially if you are using the same measuring cup for all the ingredients without washing it in between. To avoid a mess when measuring sticky stuff, coat your measuring cup with hot water or pat cooking oil to it. Try this! It works!
Did you know that you should use eggshells to remove eggshells? It is the best tool to extract annoying tiny bits of cracked shells that ended up in the bowl.
To keep the crispness of celery and make it last longer, wrap it in an aluminum foil. The foil should be tight enough that moisture can’t escape but not too tight that it can crush the celery. The vegetable will lose less moisture.
Keep your bananas fresh and longer by wrapping the end of the bunch. The plastic wrap helps contain ethylene gas produced by fruits naturally while they ripen.
Using a spoon to peel your ginger is faster than using a knife. Scrape against the skin and it will come right off.
You can make grating of cheeses like mozzarella or fontina easier by freezing it first for 30 minutes then grate.
Did you know that you can peel a potato without a peeler? Just boil them and put it in an ice cold water. The skin will separate and you can pick it right off by hand.
