HOW TO RIPEN AVOCADO FASTER, PLUS AN EASY GUACAMOLE RECIPE
Do you know that avocados ripen after they are harvested and not from the tree? It will take 4-7 days after it is harvested for it to ripen naturally in room temperature.
If you want to know if an avocado is fully ripe or not, all you need to do is gently squeeze and if it feels soft but not mushy that means it is ready to eat. Usually, ripe avocados have darker colors. But since the color varies it is best to feel it.
But if you don't want to wait days for avocados to ripen, there's a quick way! Here are the steps.
Step1
Put 2-3 of them in a brown paper bag.
Step2
Add an apple or banana.
Step3
Close the paper bag and store in room temperature.
It will accelerate the natural ripening process. If you don't have a paper bag you can also wrap them in a newspaper. You know why? Avocados produce ethylene gas that helps them ripen. Also, fruits like bananas and apples have plant hormones too that triggers the ripening process. When they are combined in a closed brown paper bag, the ethylene gases are trapped and causes the fruits to ripen even faster together. That's how it works.
