When you're stressed from work or school, sad, or disappointed, what food makes you happy? I know most of you will say ice cream! That's what I have in mind too. Yes, ice cream makes us happy! It doesn't matter if you're a toddler or an adult. It feels as if it is part of our human biology. That sweet, cold, and creamy treat tickle our brain as what other scientists say. It affects some part of our brain that when they tried to fMRI a person while eating ice cream, they detect local changes in blood flow in areas of the brain. It's crazy how it can positively affect your mood, limit mood swings, and chases the blues away.

Studies show that when we eat ice cream, the part of our brain called Orbitofrontal cortex or OFC, where we feel an emotion or make a decision, activates. Then it releases chemicals in your brain that make you sense positivity or you feel better. And the next time, it is triggered and makes us remember that it was when we ate ice cream that we felt better. Not to mention, ice cream also contains calming nutrients that help us relax and sleep better. There are tons of ice cream you can buy in stores with different flavors to choose from. But if you want something natural and homemade, continue reading for I will share with you a homemade Strawberry ice cream. So easy to make!

 

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup of whole milk

 2 cups of heavy cream 

1 pound fresh strawberries (washed and trimmed)

2/3 cup of sugar

 

DIRECTIONS:

1.) Slice your strawberries into 1/4 slices each then put half of it in a blender and puree. Set aside the sliced strawberries and the pureed one.

 

2.) In a medium heat saucepan, put the milk, cream, and sugar then stir until sugar is dissolved.

 

3.)  Remove from heat and pour into a large bowl then add the strawberry puree and mix. Cover with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator until completely cool.

 

4.) Dice the remaining sliced strawberries into smaller pieces. Then remove the chilled cream and pour into an ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer's instructions.

 

5.) When the process is almost done, stir in the diced strawberries then transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for 3 hours. Then your yummy homemade ice cream is ready to serve! Enjoy!
